I happened upon the Draws From Life Figure drawing class after searching and considering many courses of study and lessons that I hoped would help to build my skills as an artist. I was familiar with Steve Huston through his 'Figure Drawing for Artists - Making Every Mark Count" book and some tutorials that I had seen online and his teaching style seemed patient and helpful. When I stumbled upon his new, solo course offering, I flip flopped a bit on what to do, but my inner self told me that this course was the one and I decided to sign up. I had no idea how it would go but in retrospect, I am so very glad I that listened to that calling.

My initial thoughts of uncertainty were so wrong and nothing could have prepared me for the fantastic life experience that this Draws From Life figure drawing course would become.

Steve Huston is a scholarly and incredibly talented artist whose art resume speaks for itself - but his artwork nearly has to RUN to keep up with his knock-out talents as an instructor. His knowledge is ocean-deep and wide. His methods are measured and thorough, he builds from a basic steps and works those basic concepts into all of his teaching. His teaching is steady and on track, methodical and kind in a way that flows perfectly with how I need to learn. His patience and grace with those artists at a more basic level is so delightful to hear. Always encouraging and complimentary of little things in a work that may not be on point, he engages with his students on a personal level and keeps them tight as a group.

I have a few years on me so I have to think back a bit, but I believe with certainty that I could say that Steve Huston is perhaps the finest instructor - on any subject - that I have ever studied with. Period. Through his helpful guidance, my drawings are showing marked improvement, and my observational skills associated with other artwork that I produce has improved dramatically. Even my mindset about art and creating has had an overhaul. I am kinder to myself and my mistakes. I even have a new network of fellow students that I interact with and consider as friends.

The Draws from Life Figure Drawing course and Steve Huston's teaching is giving me the confidence and skills that I have always wanted to have, but did not know exactly where to find them. My simplest and complete summary may just be to say: Steve Huston has given me the path and the confidence to finally refer to myself as an ARTIST. And for me, that is a very big deal.

I joined Steve’s Draws From Life program hoping to become a better artist-I don’t know if I was sure what that meant to me. I knew I wanted to learn to draw the figure better but I was stuck. Steve Huston’s Draws from Life Program has been life changing for me. It has been one of the best investments in time and money that I’ve ever made. As a new artist, I really didn’t know how or where to start learning how to draw the human figure. YouTube videos and books didn’t work for me; I needed guidance from a master artist and instructor to learn the foundations of figure drawing, with detailed and clear instruction, taught in a methodical way to help build my skills from the ground up.  Its hard to explain how I think about this all because I can be rigid/flexible, busy/relaxed, emotionally led/mentally led, time poor/time abundant, and the answers for me are different every time and every day.

 Sometimes I have to push myself and sometimes I have to pull myself back, and only every now and then do I feel like the right place, right time, right idea, right inspiration, all come together. Therefore having a platform, the mindstack, that I can build that reflects my own personal goals, skills, strengths is extremely poignant in this day and age and with whats going on in the art world/world.

 You know Taoism, and I love the idea of bluntening my sharp points, and sharpening my dull points, combined with technique in time is the bravura. I will be happy to explore this material and potential forever, you are a legend!

Steve Huston’s Draws from life course is truly life changing and I am not saying it lightly. He is an absolutely amazing artist and just as good a teacher, which is an extremely rare combination. Steve’s ability to simplify an infinitely complex process is a brilliant skill that makes this course so powerful. He removes intimidation from art making and helps you find joy in the process itself. The whole course is a series of small simple steps that result in a huge progress. Steve takes the latest approaches to learning and combines them for results that are truly amazing. On top of that, he managed to create a tight-knit community of creatives in a virtual course, which in itself is mission impossible.
